AZGORILLAZ - DOCUMENTARY SHORT - A WILDHUES SPONSORED FILM
“LOSERS FIND REASONS AND WINNERS FIND WAYS.”
This documentary short was born out of the desire to give back to the local community of the Phoenix, AZ basketball scene. The film was launched with an in-person fundraising premiere with over $12,200 raised for the AZGorillaz club basketball team. All of the proceeds went directly to the club, ensuring the team has the proper resources and funding to keep the team active and making an impact in its community.
A team compiled of inner-city boys from diverse and challenging backgrounds, Jake Jensen fearlessly leads these boys into becoming better basketball players and instilling them with strong ethics, hard work, and competitiveness in life.
The film was produced, shot, and edited by Silas Tolles over the span of 2 years. Below is an excerpt from coach Jake Jensen of his vision for the program.
“This is not just a basketball team, and that’s why I’m in my 5th year of coaching this team, despite all the time, energy and resources it can take. I’m passionate about teaching leadership and life skills through the game of basketball! I have seen countless kids who might appear rough around the edges and have difficulty managing their emotions, grow into positive leaders and strong communicators through this program. Something I am passionate about is creating opportunities for my players to train younger kids as well. These young men have taken pride in giving back to their communities. This summer, I want to provide even more opportunities for them to travel and be successful.”
With the money raised from this film Jake has been the team outside of Phoenix for tournaments, and sponsoring some players in tournaments so that everyone has the chance to play despite not having the resources.
